PICKET FENCE KNITS -- ABOUT JANA

Here is Simon, one of the senior staff at Picket Fence Knits, keeping his eye on the mouse.

Jana Deck
Jana Deck was born and raised in Carmel Valley, California. Growing up she was always creative and interested in fashion design. As a young girl, Jana would take paper dolls and trace their shapes on tissue paper and then design outfits for them.

In her 20s, Jana learned to knit. She knew that she had found her calling as she fell in love with the textures, colors, and the possibilities. For several years Jana owned a yarn store in San Francisco, procuring and selling the finest-quality yarn, developing patterns, and running workshops.

When she returned to the Monterey Peninsula, Jana continued to knit for personal enjoyment, for friends, and as a creative outlet. But only recently, when a friend was having a baby, Jana began knitting for children. She found that the creativity allowed when knitting for babies was extremely appealing. The materials, often organic, are always natural and therefore extremely soft, the colors are scrumptious, and the detail options are vast. Jana found her calling once again.

Now Jana operates Picket Fence Knits from her home in Pacific Grove, California. Although she has a number of baby accessories, sweaters, and hats already created, her favorite thing is to work with a client and create a design just for their child. Knitting a sweater with a specific child in mind makes the experience so much more personal for Jana, and the gift that much more special for the child.

Designing and knitting for babies is what I truly love to do!
